Meeting · Sapa town — hotel pick-up or agreed meeting point on Day 1, confirmed in writing after enquiry.

This is SapaTreks' published five-day remote-villages trek — distinct from our half-day and full-day Muong Hoa routes, the fixed 2D1N homestay, and the Fansipan summit expedition. It is consecutive village walking with four homestay nights on the operator itinerary, booked after enquiry rather than as a walk-in daily departure with an online from-price.

The walking legs below come from the operator's confirmed itinerary: Day 1 from Sapa through Cat Cat, Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, and Ta Van; Day 2 from Ta Van through Giang Ta Chai, Su Pan, and Thanh Binh; Day 3 from Thanh Kim through Thanh Phu to Sin Chai; Day 4 from Sin Chai through Nam Nhiu to Nam Cang with jungle and waterfall sections; Day 5 from Nam Cang through Nam Ngan, Nam Sai, and My Son, then vehicle return to Sapa.

You receive a written quotation before payment with the fixed price, your start date, party-size terms, cancellation rules, and any seasonal adjustments. Sending an enquiry does not guarantee availability on your dates until we reply in writing.

Suitability

Who this programme suits

Use this page if you already want a multi-day, homestay-based village trek beyond the 2D1N Muong Hoa route and you accept a challenging pace. If you need a fully custom corridor or different length, use Private Trek Planner instead.

  • Fit multi-day trekkers

You should be comfortable walking day after day on village and forest paths, carrying a day pack, and sleeping in ethnic homestays with shared facilities unless your written quote states otherwise.

  • Guests who plan ahead

Start dates, homestay coordination, and named guide assignment are arranged after enquiry — not as a walk-in same-day product.

  • Not the same as Fansipan or day treks

This route stays in remote communes and jungle-linked sections toward Nam Cang. It is not the Fansipan summit trek and it is not the published half-day or full-day Lao Chai–Ta Van products.

  • Safety & honesty

Tell us about injuries, medication, fear of heights, and dietary needs when you enquire. Your guide adjusts pace and may change sections for weather or trail safety — major changes are explained on the trail.

Reaching the narrow river at the bottom of the valley, you follow its banks before arriving at Y Linh Ho, a village of the Black Hmong ethnic minority. Here, you will have time to rest and enjoy lunch (approximately one hour).

In the afternoon, the trail becomes more challenging as you climb past one of the mountains in Sapa known as Silverstone. This section provides an opportunity to experience one of the more demanding parts of the route while enjoying the natural beauty of the jungle and observing life in the indigenous communities of the mountains. Afterwards, descend through dense forest until reaching a small road leading towards your accommodation.

Tonight, you will stay at a Red Dao family homestay. Approximate trekking: 5–6 hours. Village visit: approximately one hour. Lunch break: approximately one hour.

This area is home to the Red Dao ethnic minority, whose traditional culture includes distinctive embroidered clothing. Along the way, you may encounter local villagers working in their fields with buffalo, traditionally used for ploughing and during the rice harvest.

A steep descending trail leads towards the river. After crossing the bridge, begin climbing once again towards Thanh Phu village. Here, you will spend time visiting members of the Tay ethnic community and seeing their traditional stilt houses. Lunch will be prepared by a Tay family, providing an opportunity to enjoy a local meal while looking out over the surrounding rice terraces (lunch break approximately one hour).

In the afternoon, continue along a small hidden trail through the rice valley towards Sin Chai village. Your trek finishes at a Red Dao family homestay, situated on the hillside of Sin Chai. The remainder of the day is free for you to spend time exploring the village. Approximate trekking: 5–6 hours.

Begin the morning along a quiet road before turning onto a dirt and clay trail that climbs towards the Red Dao village of Nam Nhiu. The route offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, rivers and waterfalls. You will arrive in Nam Nhiu shortly before noon. If it is a school day, the itinerary includes a visit to a small local school.

Leaving the village behind, continue along a small dirt trail through a valley dotted with wooden huts traditionally used by local farmers as overnight shelters during the harvest season. After passing rice terraces and crossing the river area, continue for a while along a quiet road before reaching the charming village of Nam Cang.

    Return to Sapa (no homestay)

Wake up to the fresh mountain air before enjoying breakfast and a warm cup of tea. Leaving the homestay, begin walking along a quiet road before turning towards the mountainside, where a steep trail leads towards Nam Ngan village. Cross a beautiful stream using an old suspension bridge before continuing along a narrow trail through rice fields and into the jungle, where different plants and herbs grow naturally.

Soon, you will arrive at Nam Ngan, with expansive views across the valley and surrounding mountains. Here, you will meet members of the Red Dao ethnic minority, visit local homes and gain an insight into everyday life in this remote part of Northern Vietnam.

Continue towards Nam Sai village, inhabited by the Tay ethnic minority and known for its traditional stilt houses, hospitality and local food. Lunch will be taken during this part of the journey.

After saying goodbye to the Tay village, continue with a short hike towards the nearby village of My Son. Here, you will encounter another distinctive culture: the Xa Pho ethnic minority, one of the smallest ethnic groups living in Northern Vietnam.

Following the visit, a vehicle will transfer you back to Sapa, bringing the five-day trekking journey to an end. Approximate trekking: 5 hours. Lunch break: approximately one hour. Transfer to Sapa: approximately 1.5 hours.
